Reported by Free Press Journal, the freshly built bitumen layers of the road came off just after 24 hours. According to local residents, the road was constructed on Wednesday and opened on Thursday. They also claimed that the constructors did not clean the surface before applying the bitumen.
When the surface contains dirt and dust, the upper layers will not stick accurately to the base coats. Therefore, whatever the bitumen is, the road peels off quickly.

In addition to proper construction method, bitumen quality matters. Honestly, the suitable type of bitumen highly depends on the climate and the country you are going to build the road. Some countries such as India prefer a particular type of bitumen such as viscosity grade class including Vg-10, Vg-20, Vg-30, Vg-40. In contrast, many African countries prefer penetration grades as paving material.
In 1991, the Bureau of Indian Standards declared viscosity grading method as the official certified type of bitumen for road construction. After the declaration, supply and demand of various viscosity increased. Viscosity grade bitumen can tolerate a wide variety of temperature and pressure; therefore, it is a suitable material for Indian roads. Duo to the variety of climate in India, VG grades are better options of bitumen. However, road pavement is not the only applications of viscosity grades.
