Thailand’s Bitumen capacity is approximately 1.364 million tons per year.

In 2018, Thai refineries produced 1.37 million tons of bitumen, whereas bitumen production in 2017 was less than this value. Afterward, the production was projected to remain in a stable range up to 2024.

Thailand Bitumen Consumption:

Bitumen consumption can decrease for some reasons. Firstly, because of the monsoon season, usually from July to October. Secondly, because of the delay in releasing the funds and budget for road construction. Furthermore, in each city, the consumption of Thai bitumen is directly related to the annual budget set for road construction.

According to the forecast, the consumption growth will be at 3% up to 2024.

In 2018, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) expected the GDP growth rate to be 3 or 4 % by 2022. However, different events like corona pandemic affected this estimation.

Thailand’s bitumen consumption is divided into two groups:

  • 97% of total consumption is for road projects
  • 3% of total consumption is for roofing projects

  • Pen 60/70 and Pen 80/100
  • PG 64, PG 70, PG 76, and PG 82 (using these types of bitumen is according to the climate condition)
  • Conventional Bitumen emulsion grades such as CRS-1, CRS-2, CMS-2h, CSS-1, and CSS-1h
  • Cutback grades: MC-30, MC-70, RC-70, and RC-250
  • PMB emulsions: CSS-1hp, CSS-1h, CRS1P, CRS-2P, CMS-2hP, and CSS-1hN

Thailand Bitumen Imports:

More than 80% of the bitumen volume is from Singapore and Malaysia, while the remaining percentage of imports is from China, Chinese Taipei, and South Korea.

The imported cargo comes into Bangkok.

Thailand Bitumen Exports:

  • Thailand exports mainly to China, Australia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Indonesia.
  • The port for exporting the cargo is in Rayong.
